NY Forward releases details on projects awarded part of $4.5 million economic development grant

Six Wellsville NY Forward Projects awarded, see the project timelines

A small projects fund will be established with unallocated $449K

Earlier this week the New York State announced that a total of $4.5 million dollars pledged for economic development and revitalization has been earmarked for six projects in the village of Wellsville. A nearly half million dollar fund to support future small projects has also been created. Mayor Randy Shayler had this to say about the awards:

“Thank you to Governor Hochul, the Department of State, and everyone involved in NYForward. Wellsville’s award and the projects selected will positively impact our community for decades to come! NYForward has become the catalyst for our economic growth, beyond its $4.5 Million funding. We have just begun to see its full impact.”

Building restorations, revitalizations, and upgrades account for $3.4 million of the total awards from the state. The biggest project, and most transformative is the former railroad depot, aka “The Old Depot.” Once an iconic symbol of Wellsville, the former train station has fallen into disrepair for over seventy years. The project, spearheaded by architect Andrew Sisson, has a big vision that will be exciting to watch unfold. Below are some additional details about each of the projects selected for funding:

Transform the Depot into an Event Center & Museum

TOTAL PROJECT COST $2,085,000

% OF TOTAL PROJECT COST 59%

PROPERTY OWNER The property is owned by The Depot LLC, which is headed by Andrew Sisson (owner/ architect), Garret Stephen, and Chan Whitford.
Main Street Wellsville NY

Revise the former Daily Reporter Building

TOTAL NYF FUNDS REQUESTED $762,000

TOTAL PROJECT COST $1,523,000

% OF TOTAL PROJECT COST 50%

PROPERTY OWNER Jeffrey and Deborah Young are co-owners of the Reporter Building and Allegany County Rentals

Develop New Branding and Signage for the Village of Wellsville ($90,000)

TOTAL NYF FUNDS REQUESTED $90,000

TOTAL PROJECT COST $90,000

% OF TOTAL PROJECT COST 100%

PROPERTY OWNER Village of Wellsville

Establish the Wellsville NYF Small Project Fund ($449,000)

PROPERTY OWNER There will be various property owners who participate in the grant fund.

Experience Entertainment at the “Well”

TOTAL NYF FUNDS REQUESTED $640,000

TOTAL PROJECT COST $1,148,000

% OF TOTAL PROJECT COST 56%

PROPERTY OWNER The property is currently owned and maintained by the Village of Wellsville, with Little Lisa Inc. holding a lease-to-purchase option. The lease is for 10 years, with a purchase option at the end of those 10 years.

Improve Gateways to the Village of Wellsville ($551,000)

TOTAL NYF FUNDS REQUESTED $551,000

TOTAL PROJECT COST $584,000

% OF TOTAL PROJECT COST 94%

PROPERTY OWNER: All the proposed project improvements are located within the public right-of-way

Expand Space and Offerings at the Creative Arts Center

TOTAL NYF FUNDS REQUESTED $780,000

TOTAL PROJECT COST $887,000

% OF TOTAL PROJECT COST 88%

PROPERTY OWNER The property is owned by Architectural Rescue LLC, which is owned and operated by Andrew Glanzman who is also the founder and president of the Wellsville Creative Arts Center. The Wellsville Creative Arts Center has the authority to undertake the project.
