Line Helper Wanted,

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is manual work of a repetitive nature performed under immediate supervision. A line helper performs a variety of routine manual tasks and must be sufficiently familiar with the tools and terminology of the trade to be able to supply the lineman with tools and equipment in the shortest possible time. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (illustrative only)

Acts as ground worker for lineman, supplying them with tools, materials and equipment;

Assists lineman in installing, disconnecting and maintenance of service lines and electric meters; Assists in reading, testing and adjusting electric meters;

Assists in setting and equipping poles and stringing electric power lines; Digs holes for utility poles;

Trims trees in path of transmission lines; Loads and unloads equipment truck;

May participate in the performance of laboring tasks and operation of motor equipment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Elementary understanding of the basic tools, terminology, materials and safety precautions of the trade; ability to follow simple instructions; mechanical aptitude; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduation or GED and one year of experience as an electrician’s helper, mechanic’s helper or construction laborer.
