A once in a lifetime opportunity for local guitar player

By Andrew Harris

A Friendship Central School student has a chance to travel to Los Angeles to learn from and play with his guitar heroes. Zakk Ueblacker has been working really hard on his chops, riffs, and solos so his mom decided to “dream big” and entered her oldest son’s name into a scholarship to attend a “Rock n Roll Fantasy Camp.” To her surprise, and excitement, Zakk was chosen to attend the three day camp on the west coast. Heather Ueblacker explains what a big deal this could be for Zakk:

” I sent in a nominee essay a while back and just got a call that zakkary was chosen! He would recieve the half off scholarship to a rock and roll fantasy camp in L.a. California. He would have 3 days of learning from mentors such as Derek St Holmes, Bruce Kulick, Todd Morse, Vinnie Appice, Britt Lightning and more (they are from some of his favorite bands/artists like Ted nuggent, Kiss, Black Sabbath, and Dio) at the end they do a performance together. Craziest part is its 2 days before his 16th birthday pretty cool right?!”

Like everything in California, this will be an expensive dream come true for Zakk. So his friends and family decided to help raise some money for a trip that will cost about six thousand dollars. This Saturday in Scio, at the Scio Rod and Gun Club is your chance to help make this happen.

Zakk’s pal Emma McDowell has organized the event and hopes you can make it to Scio this Sunday:
