Auntie’s Place Studio is a teaching studio in Houghton, New York, managed by artist Sarah Phillips.  She describes it as a fun place to learn arts and crafts.  She believes that most people have an innate desire to create, which motivated her to establish a unique workshop that is “user friendly.”  “No previous experience is necessary; the less you know, the more you learn,” says Sarah.  A wide variety of art supplies and tools are available for people to explore a number of different avenues, and find the ones that appeal to them the most.

Over a dozen artists take advantage of this opportunity, and have created works of art in oils, acrylics, colored pencil, watercolor, scratchboard, and mixed media. These students will have their work on display as part of The Fountain Arts Center Artists Among Us program.  The program features the work of artists that rotates through several sites throughout Allegany County.  The Auntie’s Place Student Exhibit will be on display at the Community Gallery at Houghton University March 30th through May 12th.  The public is invited to meet the artists at a reception in the gallery at Houghton University on Friday April 5, 2024 from 6-8PM.

The artists include Karen Barber, Barbara Caldwell, Ida Case, Linda Fiegl, Lorraine Hasper, Winnie Hettinger, Bonnie Leigh, Gail Kedzierski, Sally Miller, Lilly Milliman, Jean Nevinger, Sarah Phillips, and Carol Whitney.  This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrants program of the New York State Council for the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered in Allegany and Wyoming Counties by the Arts Council for Wyoming County.
