Division Titles Decided in Academic All-Stars Competition

Canaseraga beats Avoca in tie-breaker, Alfred-Almond bests Arkport, Corning Gold wins

From the Academic All-Stars,

STEUBEN COUNTY- The final night of regular Academic All-Stars competition was held on Monday with division titles being clinched.

In the Large School division Hornell came into the night having already clinched the title.  They finished the season with an impressive 5-1 record after defeating Bath Haverling 56 – 37.  In a match between our two Corning teams, Corning Gold came out on top of Corning Black 26 – 22.

The Medium-Large school division saw Addison earning the division title by defeating Campbell-Savona in a close match 28 – 27.  Addison also finished the season with a 5 – 1 record.  In other match play Canisteo-Greenwood bested Naples 48 – 41, finishing their season with a 4 – 2 record.

Alfred-Almond came out on top in the Medium-Small school group with a victory over their closest competitor, Arkport, 67 – 56.  This gave A-A a 5 – 1 record in regular season play.
Hammondsport won their match against J-T 50 – 41.

The Small school division ended with a tie breaker to determine the champion.  Canaseraga gave Prattsburgh a 39 – 19 defeat, while Avoca was able to top Bradford 42 – 36.  That gave both winning teams 5 – 1 records for the season and necessitated a tie breaker game.  That contest ended with Canaseraga outscoring Avoca 6 – 4, giving them the division title.

Our final Championship Matches will be held next Monday, March 26 at the Bath-Haverling High School Auditorium.  Hornell will face Addison for the Large School Championship.
