WELLSVILLE, NY – On Saturday, December 9th, the YMCA celebrated it’s 10th Anniversary of serving the Wellsville community.

A decade ago, the 8,000 square foot RiverWalk Plaza property was transformed into a wellness center housing a variety of fitness equipment, two exercise studios, a community room with kitchen, and a child care room.  And so began the YMCA bringing its mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility to Wellsville.

This YMCA location would not have been possible without the generous donations of local community members.  The founding major donors were:

Charles P. Joyce & Sherry C. Walton

Otis Eastern Service Inc.

Dresser-Rand Co.

M&T Bank

The L.C. Whitford Co., Inc.

Allegany County Area Foundation, Inc.

“I cannot express enough the gratitude I have for all of the community support that the Y has received over the years,” noted Tyler Green, Associate Executive of the Wellsville YMCA.  “The power and the impact of the Y is in the hearts and actions of every neighbor who believes in our vision of a better “us” and a stronger community. Not only can I reflect on the past 10 years of service the Wellsville Y has done, I can look forward 10 years and get excited about all of the things we can do.“

An anniversary celebration took place last Saturday at 9:00 am at the Wellsville YMCA.  Board members, local officials, and YMCA leaders spoke about the significance of the YMCA mission and its impact on the Wellsville community and surrounding areas.  Community members attended the program and enjoyed a continental breakfast to follow.

“When I think of how to measure a decade of YMCA impact in the Wellsville Community, it seems like a daunting task.  But when you start to collect and listen to the hundreds of stories shared by Y members, families and the children from this community, you quickly realize that the evidence of our impact is around every corner.  I am so proud of our accomplishments over the past 10 years and I am excited for what the future holds for our Wellsville YMCA,” stated Jeff Townsend, CEO YMCA of the Twin Tiers.

Members are encouraged to share what the Wellsville YMCA has meant to them over the past ten years.  Forms are available at the membership desk or feedback can be submitted online at https://t.ly/HFmNL.
