A Gem in Naples, NY

By Jim Moore, Chief Finger Lakes Enthusiast

Naples, a picturesque town nestled in the heart of the Finger Lakes, has long been a treasure trove for those seeking natural beauty and a relaxed atmosphere. Recently, however, Naples has gained an exciting addition to its charm – the Hollerhorn Distillery, a destination restaurant that’s well worth the drive for anyone seeking a unique culinary and sensory experience. It’s worth noting that Hollerhorn Distillery was recently rebuilt following a fire that destroyed the original building.

A group of 4 of us, affectionately known as the Four Fine Friends, decided to embark on a 45-minute journey from our homes in Hornell and Dansville to explore this captivating establishment. The reason? Hollerhorn’s intriguing combination of vegan-friendly cuisine and inventive cocktails had us intrigued. Plus, we’d heard whispers of their take on the classic bourbon “Old Fashion,” aptly named the “Manfashion.” It was an adventure we were eager to embark upon.

Upon our arrival at Hollerhorn, it was clear that this was no ordinary distillery or restaurant. The exterior exuded rustic charm, hinting at the warmth and comfort we were about to experience. As we stepped inside, the decor was a perfect blend of rustic chalet and cozy lodge – exactly the kind of ambiance that makes you want to get comfortable and enjoy.

The staff at Hollerhorn Distillery were nothing short of phenomenal. They had that rare ability to strike a perfect balance between being engaging and knowledgeable while maintaining the utmost professionalism. From the moment we were greeted, it was evident that we were in for a memorable experience.

The menu was a testament to Hollerhorn’s commitment to providing a unique culinary adventure. As a vegan, I was thrilled to discover a thoughtful selection of plant-based options. I opted for the Gado Gado, a cold-smoked tofu dish served with rice noodles and a velvety smooth peanut sauce. Each bite was delicious, and the cold-smoking process added a delightful depth to the tofu.

But it was dessert that truly stole the show. While I typically don’t indulge in sweets when dining out, our server’s description of the vegan caramel cheesecake was too tempting to resist. The moment I took the first bite, I knew I’d made the right choice. The cheesecake was rich, decadent, and a sweet treat beyond compare. It was a perfect ending to a remarkable meal.

Hollerhorn Distillery’s attention to detail extended to their coffee service, which was served at our table in French presses. It was the perfect accompaniment to our dessert, enhancing the overall experience.

Our impression is that this Naples gem is a must-visit destination for anyone in the Finger Lakes area and beyond. Its comfortable atmosphere, exceptional hospitality, and eclectic menu make it a standout in a region already known for its culinary delights. Whether you’re a local or making a day trip from afar, Hollerhorn Distillery promises an unforgettable experience that will leave you longing to return.
