Myrtle Elisabeth “Betty” Joyce, 88, Andover

      ANDOVER – Myrtle Elisabeth “Betty” Joyce, 88, passed away peacefully Thursday (October 26, 2023) at Wellsville Manor Care Center.

      Mrs. Joyce was born on February 27, 1935 at home in Andover to Clyde and Mary (Yager) Harris. She was a 1953 graduate of Andover Central School and later earned her associate’s degree from Rochester Business Institute in 1955. On October 27, 1963 she married Leo D. Joyce, who predeceased her on May 24, 1999.

      Betty began her working career with Joyce Western in Andover in 1958 where she was the Executive Secretary. In 1984 she moved over to Otis Eastern Service Inc. in Wellsville where she continued as the Executive Secretary and Treasurer, retiring in March of 2022 after a total of 64 years of service.

      Betty is survived by four sons, Frank Joyce, Mike Joyce, Jerry Joyce and Steve Joyce, all of Andover; one brother, David (Sandra) Harris of Andover; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Harris of Andover, Agnes Bush of Wellsville and Jane Cronin of Canisteo; one brother-in-law, Tom Joyce of Andover; three grandchildren, Patrick Joyce, Aaron Joyce, both of Andover Britteny (Miguel) Monahan of San Marcos, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Socorro Delgado-Monahan and Raphael Delgado-Monahan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

      In addition to her husband of 35 years, she was predeceased by two sisters, Carrol (John) Gavin and Marilyn Harris; two brothers, Donald (Brenda) Harris and Bruce Harris; and four brothers-in-law, Gerald (Irene) Joyce, John “Jack” (Patricia) Joyce, Jack Bush and Tom Cronin.

      Betty enjoyed her work and considered her co-workers as a second family. She liked spending time with family and friends, often over a game of poker. In days past, she enjoyed going out for dinner with her husband.

      There will be a time of visitation on Tuesday (October 31) from 2-4 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Andover.
