Loving Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather

Laroy (Larry) Spateholts Jr, 96 of Cuba, passed away peacefully at his home on August 22, 2023 with loved ones by his side.

Born on Sept 28, 1926 in Hudson, NY, he was the youngest of five children of Laroy Sr (Roy) and Eva (Jones) Spateholts

Larry was a 1944 graduate of Hudson High School.

He enlisted in the US Navy during World War II and served from January 1945 to August 1946 with Honorable Discharge. He was stationed as a Medical Corpsman at several Naval Hospitals in NYC and Long Island. He received the Victory Medal and American Theater Medal.

He enrolled at Alfred University and graduated in 1950 with a degree in Drafting. He began work at Acme Electric as a Draftsman in Cuba where he retired after 37 years in 1987.

While at Alfred, Larry met Barbara Hurlburt. They were married in Whitesville on March 25,1951 and resided in Cuba until Barbara predeceased him on December 26, 2015 (64 years)

Larry was very active in the community:

50+ Years Boy Scouts of America
Cuba Community Development Corp 

Cuba Methodist Church

Surviving are two sons, Bob (Barbara Franano) Spateholts of Moscow, ID and Jim (Mary) Spateholts of Nunda NY, five grandchildren, three step grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Sunday, October 1, 2023 from 1-3:00 P.M. with a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 3:00 P.M.  The Rev. Rebecca Worth will officiate.

Larry and Barbara will be interred together in a private ceremony at Whitesville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cuba Methodist Church, Cuba Fire Department or Cuba Circulating Library.
