On August 13, 2023, at 1:11pm, the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a serious motor vehicle collision at the intersections of State Route 19 and State Route 39 in the Town of Pike.

Following investigation by the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office Crash Management Team, the following determinations have been made. A 2017 Honda CRV was being operated by Gretchen E. Pittman, age 75 of Warsaw, NY, when Pittman failed to slow for the stop sign at the intersection. Pittman’s vehicle entered the intersection where it struck the driver side of 2012 Chevrolet Traverse, being operated eastbound on State Route 39 by Ryan M. Haudricourt, age 29 of Freedom, NY. The collision caused both vehicles to exit the roadway, severing a utility pole and leaving the intersection closed for over three [3] hours.

Gretchen Pittman suffered severe life-threatening injuries. Pittman was flown by helicopter to Erie County Medical Center [ECMC], where she later died from her injuries.

Ryan Haudricourt, along with two passengers in his vehicle, all suffered severe injuries. All three occupants were flown by helicopter to separate hospitals, ECMC, Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo, NY, and Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. Ryan Haudricourt remains in critical condition at the ECMC Trauma ICU. Both of Haudricourt’s passengers are now listed in stable condition.
