James L. Rogers, 77, Scio

James L. ROGERS, 77, of Scio, NY, died Friday, July 28, 2023 in his home. 

Born November 28, 1945, in Olean, he was the son of Lyman and June Dutton Rogers.  On September 17, 1965, in Scio, he married the former Beverly E. Babbitt, who predeceased him on August 3, 2004. 

A graduate of Friendship High School, he was the Chief of Police in South Pekin, IL for two years, then worked for A.L. Blades & Sons in Hornell for 20 years as an equipment operator.  James enjoyed playing Texas hold ‘em, doing carpentry work throughout his life, and maintaining a small farm for 45 years.  

Surviving are: five children, Jody (Heather) Rogers of Scio, Kirk Rogers of Erie, PA, James (Elizabeth) Rogers of Broken Arrow, OK, Shawn (Kim Smith) Rogers of Hornell, and James Garrido of TN; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne (Mary) Rogers of Bloomfield, IA; three sisters, Betty Hall of Friendship, Bonnie (Jack) Hays of Womelsdorf, PA, and Faith (James) Rauber of Cuba; nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Richard L. Rogers. 

A gathering to celebrate his life will be held Saturday, September 2, 2023 at James’s house beginning at 10:00 AM.  Cremation was at Olney-Foust Private Crematory.  Memorials may be made to Homecare & Hospice.  Arrangements are under the direction of OLNEY-FOUST Funeral Homes & Cremation, Crowell Chapel, 296 North Main Street, Wellsville, NY.
