Allegany County Legislature Holds Annual Meeting at the Fair, see Gallery

Regional and county leaders attend county fair and legislative tradition

Several community members, volunteers, and County employees were recognized by the Allegany County Legislature on July 20th at their 14th annual meeting at the fairgrounds.

The Legislature was honored to be joined by State Senators George Borrello and Tom O’Mara, Assemblyman Joe Giglio, former Congressman Joe Sempolinski, and Representatives Jesse Prieto and Lee James on behalf of Congressman Nick Langworthy. County elected officials present included County Treasurer Terri Ross and Sheriff Scott Cicirello with Undersheriff Walt Mackney.

The meeting gave the Legislature and welcomed dignitaries the opportunity to recognize numerous community members for their contributions to the County:

Mr. David Jennings, Allegany County Fair President and long-time volunteer.

2023 Fair Dedication Recipient Gary Harms, forty-year volunteer and participant at the Allegany County Fair. Mr. Harms is best known for his antique chainsaw, tractor, and farm implement restorations, and is responsible for numerous construction, restoration, and improvement projects around the fairgrounds.

Tenderfoot Scouts Anthony Marra and Jacob Mechetti, Troop 736 in Angelica, NY, who honored the assembled with the presentation of the colors. Both boys will be 7th-graders at Genesee Valley Central School in the fall.

4-H Member Honoree Brianna Morton, passionate culinary expert, Lead Cook at this year’s 4-H “Snack Shack,” National Honor Society, and National Technical Honor Society Member. She plans to attend Niagara Community College in the fall to study culinary arts.

Friendship Community Service Hero Jeffrey Marks, 30-year owner of the Friendship Pharmacy, five-time president of the Friendship Rotary Club, Third Degree Mason with the Free and Accepted Masons, member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 1168, and member of the United Methodist Church of Friendship. Marks was nominated for recognition by District II legislators Dwight (Mike) Healy, Gretchen Hanchett, and John Ricci. Stay tuned for more on Marks.

Clerk of the Board Brenda Rigby Riehle, a 31-year county employee, has served as Clerk of the Board of Legislators since 1998. Affiliations and leadership positions include the Inter-County Association of Western New York, the New York State Association of Counties Standing Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs, and the New York State Association of Clerks of County Legislative Boards. In addition to the many individual honors, Allegany County Probation Director Scott Grantier received privilege of the floor to recognize Pretrial Supervision, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week. Numerous members of his staff were present to be honored by the attendees. Board Chairman Brooke Harris read a proclamation declaring July 17 to July 21 as Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week in Allegany County.
