Annual Genesee River Wilds Float postponed due to “very low” river water level

Share:

The event has never been postponed in it’s 15 year history

Due to extreme low water levels, the Genesee River Wilds Annual Float scheduled for June 10, 2023 has been postponed.

The river is currently at just 22% of normal levels and classified as “very low.” Under these conditions, our 3-4 hour float would likely take twice as long to complete, and kayakers would be forced to carry their boats along numerous sections of the journey. GRW members surveyed the route Wednesday and determined proceeding with the float is not in the best interest of our participants having the best possible experience on the Genesee. Some rain is forecast Thursday and Friday but it is not expected to significantly improve water levels.

This marks the first time we have been forced to postpone the float due to low water levels in the near 15-year history of the event. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Those of you who pre-registered for the float via TicketLeap will not be charged. Our post-float party in Amity is also postponed.

It’s our hope that we will be able to reschedule the float for a future date when water levels are more appropriate. As soon as we determine the rescheduled date for the 2023 Annual Float, we’ll post it on the following sites: GRW website (www.geneseeriverwilds.com), Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/GeneseeRiverWilds), Instagram (www.instagram.com/geneseeriverwilds), Twitter (www.twitter.com/GRWilds), and via our direct email list (email geneseeriverwilds@gmail.com to sign up).

If you have any questions or need additional information regarding this notice, please contact email or call Chris Weinman, GRW (585) 610-7933.
