Wilfred M. “Mike” Washer, 66, of Ellington passed away Tuesday (April 25, 2023) in his home.

Mike was born on February 20, 1957, in Wellsville, NY the son of the late Wilfred W. Washer Jr. and Etta Chapman.

He graduated from Scio Central School in 1975. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served from 1975 until 1979.

He was employed by Carlson Wood Products and Trahan Well Drilling and retired from Weber Knapp in 2022. He was a volunteer fireman for the Ellington Fire Department for many years.

Mike married Rebecca in 1976. They shared a love for NASCAR racing where they took many trips to Darlington where he met his favorite race car driver Richard Petty. He loved his westerns, reading with a large collection of books, and he could be found completing the daily crossword.

Surviving are his wife Rebecca “Becky” Washer whom he married August 6, 1976 in Scio, NY; two daughters: Tanya (Kenneth) Dirling, Nichole Washer; a son: Dana (Joelle) Washer; a brother: Joseph Washer; two step brothers: Kevin and Chuck Thompson; six grandchildren: Kenny (Paige) Dirling, Brenin Dirling, Alex (Abbey) Dirling, Colin Dirling, Arabella Washer, Joshua (Danielle) Ristau; four great grandchildren: Sophia Gullotti, Toria Dirling, Grason Hooper, Serenity Ristau; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents: Mike was preceded in death by his stepmother: Betty J. Washer and a brother: Luther Washer.

At Wilfred’s request, visitation and funeral service will not be observed.

The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ellington Fire Department at 769 E Main Street, Ellington, NY 14732.
