On March 16, the doors of the former Kmart building on 121 Bolivar Road will open for retail business for the first time since 2018.

The L.C. Whitford company maintained the building and parking lot, not an easy task when there is no revenue coming in for five years, but the investment has paid off for the Wellsville community and Allegany County taxpayers.

Runnings officials said the building is on five acres of land Runnings has a long-standing history of purchasing vacant retail stores and renovating them to serve the needs of new customers.

“Celebrating its 76th year of business, Runnings has grown from its early days as an automotive supply and farm store to a large general merchandise retailer selling an extensive selection of sporting goods, clothing, pet supplies, tools, farm supplies, footwear, lawn and garden supplies and outdoor equipment. The privately-owned, family-run retailer also sells hunting, fishing, and archery equipment and accessories, as well as firearms,” Runnings officials said.

Runnings officials also said while the store opens on March 16, a grand opening planned for May. It will employ approximately 40 full- and part-time team members.
