Gary J. Frisk, 78, of 19 Willard Street passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Olean General Hospital following a brief illness. He was born June 2, 1944 in the Town of Urbana, the son of the late James and Vivian S. (Clayson) Frisk. On December 31, 1977 in Caneadea he married Ethel V. Cassady who survives.
Gary was a 1962 graduate of Hammondsport High School. He was first employed by the Taylor Wine Company in Hammondsport in the 1960’s. In October of 1971 he began his 35 year career with the Belmont Police Department as a part-time police officer, and retired as Chief of Police in May of 2006. He served on the Belmont Village Board, he was an avid golfer, and enjoyed watching the New York Yankees, and the Buffalo Bills. He loved family events, cooking, grilling, and his beloved canine companion, “Roscoe”
Surviving in addition to his wife Ethel, are two daughters, Brenda (Kurt) Schmidt of Hammondsport, and Kathleen (Dan) Moran of Nunda, six grandchildren, Amanda Jadwin, Christopher Schmidt, Jessica (Brandon) Schmidt-Monin, Matthew (Miranda) Moran, Kevin (Faith) Moran, and Megan (Tyler) Colegrove as well as eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased in addition to his parents by an infant daughter, Deborah.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday, March 2, 2023 from 10:00 am until 12 noon at the J. W. Embser Sons Funeral Home Inc, 17 Schuyler Street in Belmont. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow visitation at 12:30 pm at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Church in Belmont. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
