When Shane Davidson upset Malachi Smith in the quarterfinals on Friday in the state tournament at 189 pounds, what lore could he do?

After all, Davidson had lost to Smith three times this season before his shocking 10-4 win.

This morning in the semi-finals, Davidson faced the #1 seed in his bracket, Troy Austin of Whitehall (43-1) who won by pin and an 18-2 major decision. Last season, Austin finished sixth in the state.

In another shocking turn of events, Davidson pinned Austin at the 1:24 mark.

Davidson is now 41-4 on the season.

He will face Andrew Bailey of Section III’s Chittenango. Bailey is the #2 seed and undefeated at 40-0 this season. Bailey beat Brent Perry of Section II’s Granville-Fort Ann, 2-1.
