Bail Reform Disgrace: Allentown registered sex offender arrested, released back into public

Wellsville Village Police arrested Charles McDade on felony and misdemeanor charges, forced to release until March 7 court date

Wellsville Police arrested Charles P. McDade, age 32 of Allentown, charging him with Failure to Register an address with the Sex Offender Registry 1st (Class E Felony). McDade was processed and arraigned before Wellsville Village Justice Thompson. McDade was released and is due back in Wellsville Village Court on March 7th at 4:30 pm.

Wellsville Police arrested Charles P. McDade, age 32 of Allentown, charging him with Criminal Contempt 2nd and Harassment 2nd. The charges stem from an incident that took place on East Hanover Street on February 5th. McDade was processed and arraigned before Wellsville Village Justice Thompson. McDade was released and is due back in Wellsville Village Court on March 7th at 4:30 pm.

According to recent arrest records, McDade was also arrested in 2020 for Failing to Register a new address as required by law.

Local police and court officials have no control and very little discretion over setting bail. This new reality in law enforcement has caused a large increase in crime and backed up local court systems with those clearly exploiting bail reform laws. It is the hope of this publication that placing an additional focus on the dangerous consequences of bail reform will help spur reform.
