As 10 million people were watching the final minutes of Super Bowl LVII, the Allegany County 911 center in Belmont received a dramatic call.
The dispatchers were told there was a huge explosion in the vicinity of 4107 Irons Road and two trailers could be fully involved. There was also a report of injuries.
Irons Road is a dead end road on Friendship hill just outside Scio.
Belmont was toned with mutual aid from Friendship, Scio and Wellsville firefighters along with ambulances and MTS were at the scene, but it did not appear there was a fire. Firefighters and EMT’s did stay at the scene.
The volunteers missed a last-second drive and field goal by the Chiefs to win the game of the Eagles. However, the safety of Allegany County residents was more important to them than a football game.
