A four-day event is planned to celebrate in August 2023
From Carolyn Miller,
Plans are underway to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the Town of Scio on January 31st, 1823. The four day event will be held the second weekend in August, but will be kicked off on the actual birthday with a reception at the Scio Memorial Library on Tuesday, January 31st. The entire community is invited to enjoy history, music and homemade cookies and hot chocolate.
History will be interpreted by well-known historian Craig Braack. Music will be presented by Scio Central School students. And members of the Scio 200 Years planning committee will be baking favorite recipes from their grandmothers’ cookbooks.
Forty-nine theme baskets donated by committee members and others from the community are on display at the Scio Memorial Library and chances can be purchased and cast during library hours until the reception on January 31st when winners will be drawn beginning at 6:45 p.m. The library is open from 1:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursdays and from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Fridays.
Those attending the program are urged to arrive by 6:00 p.m. to socialize and purchase their auction tickets. Official Scio 200 Years tee-shirt in all sizes will also be available. The program will begin at 7:00 p.m. Those having historical memorabilia or pictures are urged to bring them to share.
