NY Democrats: Lee Zeldin should return campaign donations with ties to Russian oligarch

Zeldin also faces scrutiny over ties to disgraced Congressman-elect George Santos

From NYS Democratic Chairman Jay S. Jacobs

“If Lee Zeldin considers himself a Patriotic American then he should return every cent he received from the cousin of Viktor Vekselberg, a sanctioned Russian Oligarch. Andrew Intrater and his wife gave the Zeldin campaign $121,658 total in campaign contributions. While Zeldin might have been unaware of Intrater’s familial ties and business relationship with Vekselberg when these contributions were received, news reports emanating from the George Santos saga make this connection abundantly clear; The Daily Beast reported “So tightly intertwined is Intrater’s business with that of his relative, who snatched up swaths of Russia’s aluminum and fuel industries during the post-Soviet period, that Columbus Nova described itself in 2007 Securities and Exchange Commission filings as “the U.S.-based affiliate” of Vekselberg’s Renova Group.” Lee Zeldin rightly condemned Russia from invading sovereign Ukraine last year. It is now time for him to put his money where his mouth is and return those donations. If he fails to do so then every GOP candidate running in NY should refuse any contributions for the Zeldin campaign to symbolically stand with Ukraine and reject Russian blood money.”
