The Diocese of Buffalo sent a press release saying an Allegany County priest has been placed on administrative leave.

The release said he had an improper sexual relationship with a woman.

The release did not give any other details of the relationship or age of the woman, but did use the word, “woman.”

The diocese said Rev. F. Patrick Melfi, the temporary administrator at Our Lady of the Angels in Cuba, and at St. Patrick in Belfast and Fillmore is on leave until the investigaiton is complete.

In the statement, the diocese said, “Please note that this administrative leave is for the purpose of investigation and does not imply any determination as to the truth or falsity of the complaint.” However, they added there was a complaint that started the investigation.

In the release, Bishop Michael Fisher said the diocese wants to know of any other clerical sexual abuse. If you have information, contact diocese victim assistance coordinator Jackie Joy at 716-895-3010.
