Edward E. Ryan, 91, Andover

Edward E. Ryan, 91, passed away Friday (November 4, 2022) at the Hart Comfort House of Allegany County following a lengthy illness.

            Mr. Ryan was born on February 2, 1931 in Hornell to Edward L. and Alva Grace (Simmons) Ryan. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany, from 1952-1954. In March 1950 he married Lois A. Lehman, who predeceased him on November 5, 1994.

            Edward was an equipment operator for New York State Department of Transportation out of Andover for 38 years until his retirement in 1988. He had previously owned and operated Ryan Electronic Repair in Andover during the 1970’s where he repaired televisions. After that, he owned and operated Hi-N-Lo Photography and Videography.

            Ed is survived by two daughters, Cindy Lou Kelley (Alton Youngs) and Janet L. Hurd, both of Andover; three grandchildren, Sherry Shattuck of Holiday, Fla., Brandi Kelley of Andover and Jennifer (Charles) Wedge of Bolivar; five great-grandchildren, Connor Wedge, Hunter Wedge, Mattison Wedge, Isaiah Link and Keyonna Link; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

            In addition to his wife of 44 years, he was predeceased by two infant children, James Robert Ryan and Melody Ann Ryan; a brother, Tommy Ryan; two sisters, Billie Coff and Karol Blauth; and a son-in-law, Nolan Hurd.

            Ed generally loved the outdoors. He was very content to be out cutting wood on the hill. He was a pilot and used this opportunity to be outdoors to take aerial photos of many locations in the Wellsville area. His photography skills were put to great use in enhancing antique and vintage photos for the historical society.

            Ed was an artsy person who, along with the photography, excelled at drawing. In years past, he delighted in line dancing and also ran the sound system for local line dancing events.

            Visitation will be held on Friday (November 11, 2022) from 1-2 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home immediately following the visitation with Rev. Christian Mattison of the First Presbyterian Church of Andover officiating. Full military honors will be rendered at the funeral home by the combined Wellsville and Andover American Legions and the United States Army. Burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Andover. Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com.
