The college football season got underway in earnest over the holiday weekend. Once again the Alabama Crimson Tide enter the season as the top ranked team in the nation and heavy favorites to win the National Title. There were a number of intriguing top-25 matchups that had early National Championship implications written all over them.
Roll Tide Roll
#1 Alabama rolled Utah State 55-0 for the team’s first win of the season. The rout was led by Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Bryce Young who threw six touchdown passes. The defense was as dominant as ever, completely shutting down an inferior offense and keeping them off the scoreboard.
Buckeye Blitz
#2 Ohio State holds #5 Notre Dame scoreless in the second half in route to a 21-10 victory. The Buckeye defense held the Fighting Irish offense to just 72 total yards after halftime. Quarterback CJ Stroud threw two touchdown passes in the win.
Bulldog Beatdown
#3 Georgia embarrassed #11 Oregon 49-3 in front of a national audience. Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett led the way with 368 yards passing and two touchdowns. Despite losing a number of starters to the NFL, the defense still looks to be just as stifling as last year’s unit. The Bulldogs won the National Championship last season and appear primed to compete for the coveted prize once again.
