It was a perfect Sunday for the Tomato Festival as new Alfred University students and their families came into town and locals gathered at the Alfred Farmers Market.   The lawn was filled with vendors selling local produce and handmade products.  Two local stores were present, Sunny Cove Farm and the Rogue Carrot, to share information about their businesses and sell T-shirts and other goods.

SNAP-NY helped with a Tomato Tasting Contest that was won by Living Acres Farm of Alfred Station for their green zebra-striped tomatoes(pictured above).  All the tomatoes were delicious.  People put beans in a jar to choose their favorite.  The SNAP Educators made bruschetta and handed out samples and recipes.

Casual Reply provided entertainment as babies danced and others gathered to hear their beautiful music.  The Mennonite Church brought their wood-fired pizza oven and sold pizzas to support Ukraine.

The meat raffle sponsored by Mascho Farms was a big hit.  The proceeds from the raffle benefit the musicians who play at the market. Mary Anne Carpenter was the lucky winner.

The Alfred Farmers Market will host a Fall Festival on September 25th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm with pumpkin painting and other fall activities.  The market has been a great place for community building and access to healthy food.  They participate in SNAP and other food benefit programs.  Come visit on a Sunday.  September 4th is an Open-Mic hosted by Dave Mason of Wellsville. Sign-ups are at the bandstand to play 2 or 3 songs. All levels of talent are welcome.
