A week full of events will welcome back students to Alfred State. The annual Week of Welcome features over one hundred events prior to the start of the Fall 2022 semester.
Coordinator of Campus Recreation and chair of the Week of Welcome committee Brooke Scianna is ready to kick off the school year. “We are excited to welcome students back to campus and we have a ton of activities planned for them to enjoy. We cannot wait to meet new Pioneers and reunite with our returning Pioneers during the activities fair! It will be a great week and I encourage everyone to try something new and utilize the Corq app to follow all future events on campus.”
Week of Welcome events begin on Monday, Aug. 22. Students can play tennis, compete in a scavenger hunt or in a Hot Ones competition in the afternoon. In the evening they can attend the Student Leadership Takeover, use the Rockwall, and enjoy a late-night bonfire.
Students continue to move in on Tuesday. Some highlights of the day’s events include a trip to the college farm, a show by hypnotist Cris Johnson, bingo for snacks, and a movie.
The Mega Sale returns to start activities on Wednesday. Students can adopt a fish, play pick-up games of basketball or soccer, and attend the Party on the Green. Glow dodgeball, a bonfire with smores, and an outdoor movie are also on the schedule.
Academic meetings and the annual New Student Convocation start the day on Thursday.
Following the New Student Convocation, the over eighty clubs and organizations on campus will be in the parking lots outside Pioneer Stadium for the annual activities fair. After the fair, a smash room, yard games, a faith fest, and a Esports showcase will take place. Karaoke and an outdoor movie round are schedule in the evening hours.
Friday allows time during the day to meet with advisors and get to know both the Alfred and Wellsville campuses. Ultimate frisbee, a scavenger hunt, dodgeball, cornhole, kickball, floor hockey. a comedy show, laser tag, board games, glow volleyball, and a bonfire are on the schedule. A dive-in movie will be shown in the Orvis pool to wrap up the day.
Saturday events include an Esports tournament, a pool party, bubble soccer, and a 3×3 basketball tournament. MacKenzie Quad hosts an outdoor movie after dusk.
The new student carnival highlights the final day of the Week of Welcome. The event takes place on the campus spine and caps the day that also features a variety of activities that will introduce students to the variety of different clubs on campus.
