Fresh off the 100 Year Texas Hot festivities, Raptis resumes work for downtown revitalization

Michael T. Baldwin Reports

The Wellsville Village Board continues to be focused on local development. Mike Raptis, one of the owners of Texas Hot, attended Monday night’s meeting. He jokingly noted he was at the meeting wearing several hats!

For this story, Mike wanted to speak as the Chair of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). Raptis asked the Village for several things in short order. He asked the Village to act as lead agency in some upcoming grant submissions, for the Village to authorize the DRI to submit the grants and pass some required resolutions to help advance local development.

Allison Green, Executive Director of Alfred Housing, said her office would do much of the ‘heavy lifting’ in preparing the documentation needed. Some of the potential grant funding would help the historic depot.

For several minutes, there was some Q&A between Raptis and the Mayor, but at the conclusion Mayor Randy Shayler said the Village Board will “do what it must” to help. He said the Board would take action at its next meeting on August 8th. All the submissions can be filed electronically, so the August 10th deadline can easily be met (if the internet holds together)!

The mayor also noted that the Village is seeking funds to raze unsafe buildings.

Off with one hat, on with another. Raptis then thanked the village for all the permissions granted for the combo Texas Hot/ Balloon Rally parade. The packed event went off perfectly with police chief Tim O’Grady noting “there were no issues.”
