A Belmont man is beginning the long holiday weekend…behind bars. Friday afternoon, Amity-based State Police arrested 61-year-old Michael J. Heverly. He was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree criminal mischief (both Class D felonies) and third-degree arson-intentionally causing damage, that’s a Class C felony. The blotter listed the incident as an arson fire involving a motor vehicle or structure. No specifics were released. The incident occurred in the Town of Allen and was reported June 30th at 3:04 p.m. Arraigned in court, Heverly was remanded to the Allegany County Jail without bail. Additional court action is pending.

In other crime news…

After investigating an incident in the Town of Friendship, Troopers arrested a male, 34, of Angelica. He was charged with criminal contempt for allegedly disobeying a court order. He was released on his own recognizance.

Friday night in the Village of Bolivar, state police arrested a female, 26, of Bolivar. She was charged with prohibited sale of an alcoholic beverage. She was released on an appearance ticket for court.

During a stop in the Town of Willing Friday afternoon, Troopers arrested a male of Whitesville. He was charged with driving while intoxicated – first offense. He’ll appear in court at a later date.
