One of Wellsville’s largest restaurants closes without notice

WELLSVILLE — Despite a good location and large building, a restaurant in Wellsville closed over the weekend without public notice and today the windows are covered with paper.

The Fairview Buffett, formerly the Ponderosa at 314 Bolivar Road, closed as tabled were taken out over the weekend. On Google, the all-you-can-eat buffett says, “Permanently Closed.”

On Wednesday night, a family drove over from Canisteo and they were disappointed to see it closed and there were no signs or posts online or a story in the Wellsville Sun or Hornell Sun.

There is paper on the windows and the blinds are down at the restaurant. Another sign it is closed is a clean dumpster in the back.

Wellsville still has two other Chinese restaurants, the New King Wok near McDonald’s on Route 417 which is take out like the Dragon House on Main Street.

The Fairview Buffett is located in the Wellsville Shopping Center, which came thisclose to thriving when the parking lot was torn up for a Tim Horton’s. However, a trend that has continued over the years, small issues could not be resolved and the parking lot was eventually paved back over.

The Shopping Center remains strong with only one vacant spot from Family Video.

The owners of Microtel and Dunkin Donuts in Wellsville have the ability to open a Taco Bell franchise or another hotel, however the parent company always has the last say based on population and traffic.
