Mayor Shayler talks about the tragic loss and Officer Valentine’s brave service

Wellsville Mayor Randy Shayler on Wednesday reacted publicly to the fatal fire on Pine Street Tuesday morning. Shayler stated the “outcome is unfortunate.”
He was highly complimentary of Officer John Valentine. Shayler said “his actions don’t surprise me.” The officer and the neighbors’ responses…”they’re all heroes.”
After a pause in the interview, Shayler said…”it’s a tragedy.” Shayler learned of the crisis from a friend, who heard it on the police scanner. He said “no words can account for the loss of human life.”
He and Police chief Tim O’Grady share the regret of the death. Shayler will continue to monitor the investigation. He credited the actions of the volunteers and their incredible work.
