Roger R. Greene, 84, of Andover, passed away on Sunday (March 13, 2022) at Highland Rehabilitation Nursing Center in Wellsville with his family at his side.

Mr. Greene was born on October 15, 1937 in Hornell, second of three children, to Roswell and Irena (Woodworth) Greene. Roger was raised in Alfred Station and attended Alfred–Almond Central School. On December 2, 1961 he married Barbara A. Karl, who survives.

In 1956, Roger attended a body and fender school near Pittsburgh, Pa. Upon completion, he worked with his older brother, Dan at D & J Body Shop in Wellsville. In 1963, he began a career at Air Preheater. He taught future welders and oversaw the welding certification test during his employment at Air Preheater. He also used his autobody skills at his home garage to paint many classic and antique cars of friends, relatives, and co-workers.

Along with his wife, Roger is survived by his children: Tracy Leigh (Nestor) Greene of Canandaigua, Donald Roger (Alison) Greene of Andover, James C. (Theresa) Greene of Las Vegas, Nev., Dawn (Vickie) Greene of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Stephanie Greene of California; a sister-in-law, Paula Greene of Wellsville; three grandchildren, Cassondra, Dallas, and Zachary; and three great grandchildren, Hans, Remy and Baby Hanford due August 11, 2022.

He was preceded in death by his older brother Dan Greene and his younger sister, Joan Craft.

Roger was the epitome of the hardworking man. Along with working hard in his chosen occupation, he loved working on the farm, taking special satisfaction in making hay. He took great pleasure in hunting on the farm as well, as he was an avid hunter. He was a life member of the Nation Rifle Association. Roger was generally drawn to the outdoors.

He loved animals, especially the poor cats that were dropped off on the farm, but were fortunate enough to find paradise with Rog and Barb.

Family was very important to Roger as shown by his closeness to Dan and Joan and their families. Most important to him were his grandchildren. Special memories for him included trips to Florida and California to visit his family. He was deeply gratified by the surprise 50th anniversary event that his family held for him and his dear wife. He was entirely surprised, as well as humbled that people would go to such trouble on their behalf.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Baker-Swan Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the SPCA of Allegany County, 5440 NY-19, Belmont, NY 14813.

The family of Roger Greene would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Highland Rehabilitation Nursing Center for the love and care they provided to our loved one over the years, but especially in his final days. © 2022 Baker-Swan Funeral Home.
