V-Ry the Sports Guy: As the NFL Coaching Carousel Turns

Share:

In the NFL change is inevitable, keeping a coaching staff intact long-term is wishful thinking. This is particularly true for a perennial winner like the Buffalo Bills. At one time Buffalo was coaching purgatory, now it’s where other teams look for their next head coach. A handful of teams interviewed Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier.

Once the season came to an end for the Bills, the NY Giants acted quickly in naming Brian Daboll their next head coach. Daboll has coached in both college and the NFL, winning a National Championship with the Alabama Crimson Tide and a number of Super Bowls with the New England Patriots.

It was a predictable hire considering the new general manager for the Giants is former Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen. Both Schoen and Daboll have their work cutout for them with an extremely underachieving Giants franchise. The first thing they need to figure out is if quarterback Daniel Jones can be developed into the caliber of player that Josh Allen was in Buffalo.

Allen thrived under the watch of Daboll, becoming one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Allen also benefited from the tutelage of quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Ken Dorsey.
Dorsey has officially been promoted to the position of offensive coordinator for the Bills Dorsey was a very successful college quarterback at the University of Miami, winning a National Championship. He had a brief career in the NFL prior to becoming the quarterbacks coach for the Carolina Panthers and subsequently the Bills.

Dorsey

Dorsey has never been an offensive coordinator in the NFL, but has been part of the Bills offense for several years now. Bills fans can only hope that Dorsey can replicate the success of his. predecessor.
It’s yet to be determined what the future holds for Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, of course a return to the Bills is possible. Frazier has had interviews with a number of teams with head coaching vacancies.
