Mission accomplished.

After raising $2,400 in 2020 toward the ACCORD Corporation’s Holiday Assistance Program, Nick Davis of Genesee Valley Media raised $3,000 this year with his fun video featuring businesses around Allegany County.

“It was overwhelming how many businesses and individuals wanted to help to make sure kids got Christmas gifts this holiday season,” Davis said. “I had a lot of fun, it’s heartwarming. After doing it last year, now it’s an annual thing. It was great to see businesses from last year and new ones this year. We also had a record number of Santa’s in it!”

Davis had a friend who had a friend who knew Santa Claus. He asked Jon and Melisa “Missy” Missy Nickerson if they could get Santa and Mrs. Claus to be part of the video.

“Having Santa was an 11th hour decision,” Davis said. “A lot of the video is done on the fly. One of my favorites is the YMCA. They had a Santa suit and we had Santa lifting weights. Andrew Harris of the Wellsville Sun shows up with a chicken on Main Street. At the end of the video we find out how much money Santa donated.”

Wellsville-area businesses paid $50 for 5 seconds in the holiday video. Many paid more. Individuals and employees made donations as well.

ACCORD Corporation Services Navigator and Community Action Angels Coordinator Melissa Payne said thanks to the video, over 440 families had a great Christmas in 2020. They started accepting applications in October for this Christmas.
