Residents received public safety notice about midnight

Steuben County Emergency Services issued a rare shelter-in-place order over night for residents in Bath NY:

“12:01am (Message from BATH PD) Per Bath PD – Shelter in place and stay indoors until further notice, make sure doors and vehicles are locked. More messages will come when further information becomes available. Thank you for your assistance.

3:00am UPDATE …(Message from Bath PD) By order of Bath Police the Shelter in Place order has been lifted. You may return to normal activities. Thank you for your assistance. Again, the Shelter in Place has ended.”

Details on the reason for the order were not made public. The Steuben County Emergency Services Facebook page provided some unconfirmed information:

Lexi Leigh, of Bath, had this to offer:

Someone stole a vehicle with firearms & they found the vehicle abandoned not far from liberty st…… My friends boyfriends truck was the one stolen and it had his hunting gear in it with his firearms & ammo.”
