James N. Goodenough, 88, Gold PA

James N. GOODENOUGH, 88, of Gold, PA, died Wednesday, August 25, 2021 in the Comfort House of Allegany County, Wellsville, NY.  

Born November 14, 1932, in Wellsville, NY, he was the son of Norman J. and May Erway Goodenough.  On July 27, 1957, in Ulysses, he married the former Maude A. Sutton, who survives.  A 1951 graduate of Ulysses High School, he served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1953 – 1955 in the Korean War.  After high school, he worked with a contractor on the state highway, farmed, worked on pipeline right of ways, and the C&PA railroad.  After serving in the military, he farmed until 1966, then worked radiography inspection and x-ray.  He was employed at nuclear power plants in Moscow, OH, Oswego, NY, and Peach Bottom, PA.  Jim was last employed by defense contractors BMY, now BAE, in York.  He was a member of Gold Church, Raymond Richar VFW Post #6611 in Galeton, and Lewisville Lodge #556 F&AM in Ulysses.  At age 38, he became a pilot and owned an American Aviation plane for 20 years. 

Surviving besides his wife, Maude, are:  six children, Nellie (Tom) Chalmers of Galeton, Nancy (Dan) Morley of Gold, Jon (Carol) Goodenough of Manchester, Nora (Steve) Bobb of Shermans Dale, Ruth (Chuck) Druery of Lancaster, and Norman (Christi) Goodenough of Hoquiam, WA;  15 grandchildren;  16 great-grandchildren;  a brother, Neal L. (Carol) Goodenough of Gold;  a sister, Lois (Russell) Hendershot of Collegeville;  nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by two sons, Joseph Goodenough and James Goodenough, Jr.  

Friends may call at Olney-Foust Funeral Homes & Crematory, Ulysses, PA on Sunday, August 29, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, with a Masonic Service following at 8:00 PM.  Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, August 30, 2021 in the Gold Church, 2402 SR 49W, Ulysses, PA 16948.  Rev. Cameron Cowburn, Pastor, will officiate.  Military Rites will be accorded by members of the Potter County Honor Guard.  Burial will be in Raymond Cemetery.
