*WPD arrests dangerous drug user and must release under current bail reform laws in New York State. Should we really be arresting people with dangerous narcotics, who are so addicted and removed from reality that they are clearly choosing intravenous injection, and then release them? Is that compassionate justice to just ticket them for a behavior that is a clear public health hazard and release them? If they are creating a cost for the community by being so far gone that they use needles to get destructively high, then society should intervene. In the old days the sanitarium was next door to the jail.
