Allegany County (NY) Board Chairman W. Brooke Harris has officially proclaimed October 27, 2026, as “New York Mets Day in Allegany County,” marking the 40th anniversary of the franchise’s legendary 1986 World Series victory.

On October 27, 1986, the New York Mets defeated the Boston Red Sox in Game 7 of the World Series, capping off a dramatic comeback performance and securing the franchise’s second world championship. Forty years later, Allegany County is recognizing the team’s historic run and its enduring legacy among baseball fans across New York State.

“The ‘86 Mets remain one of the most unforgettable teams in sports history,” said Harris. Their grit, determination, and ‘underdog’ spirit mirror the characteristics of Allegany County’s residents. Baseball has a unique way of bringing our communities together, and four decades later their World Series victory continues to resonate with fans across our County. We are proud to join baseball fans throughout New York in celebrating this iconic milestone.”

To mark the occasion, residents throughout Allegany County are encouraged to wear Mets blue and orange and to reflect on one of the most memorable moments in New York sports history.
