Wellsville, NY — Ann Comstock, President of the Thelma Rogers Genealogical & Historical Society of Wellsville (TRGHS), recently presented a grant to support the Fassett Greenspace, located on the historic site of the former Fassett House Hotel, a landmark that stood in downtown Wellsville from 1870 until its demolition in 2005.  The gift was made possible through partial proceeds from the inaugural Jingle & Glow holiday light display.

Recognizing that no single organization can preserve and promote local history alone, the TRGHS Board of Directors elected to share event proceeds with several community organizations whose work contributes to preserving Wellsville’s heritage and strengthening community connections.

In addition to the Nathanial Dike Museum which TRGHS owns and manages, proceeds also went to support AFRA and the Fassett Greenspace, the Emerald Hook & Ladder Company, the Wellsville Junior Firefighter Program, the Babcock Theatre Group, Woodlawn Cemetery, and the David A. Howe Public Library.

Art for Rural America (AFRA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating public spaces that combine environmental stewardship, public art, education, agriculture, and community engagement. Its most visible project, the Fassett Greenspace, served as the location of the inaugural Jingle & Glow holiday exhibit.

The Fassett Greenspace occupies one of the most historically significant corners in the Village of Wellsville, having served over the years as the site of the community’s earliest tavern, general store, meeting place, and later the iconic Fassett House Hotel. Today, this location has been transformed into a vibrant public garden, sculpture park, educational venue, and gathering space that celebrates both Wellsville’s history and its future.  Among its most popular features is the free community garden, where residents and visitors are encouraged to harvest fresh vegetables and herbs throughout the growing season.

“When we began planning Jingle & Glow, we wanted more than a holiday light display.  We wanted a location that reflected the heart of Wellsville,” said Jackie Comstock, Chair of Jingle & Glow. “The Fassett Greenspace was the natural choice because it is already a community gathering place that brings together history, art, nature, and people of all ages. Supporting the Greenspace allows us to invest in a place that honors our past while serving our community today” said Jackie.

Planning is now underway for the 2nd Annual Jingle & Glow 2026, organized by the TRGHS, which promises to once again bring the community together for a festive and meaningful holiday experience at the Fassett Greenspace.

Sponsorship opportunities for Jingle & Glow 2026 are currently available. Individuals, businesses, and organizations interested in supporting this growing community tradition are encouraged to contact Jackie Comstock at 585-593-4551 for more information.

The Thelma Rogers Genealogical & Historical Society is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to preserving, promoting, and celebrating the rich history of Wellsville and the surrounding region. All gifts and sponsorships are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
