Give the hard working team at LaForge Disposal some well deserved “thanks!”

By Kristine Smith, Genesee, PA

This year, as a nation, we celebrate the 250th year of the establishment of the United States of America in 1776.  It has taken many people to get us to where we are today as a nation and throughout our history, many people have worked together to create industries, services, and commodities that have greatly improved quality of life and contributed to the survival of the citizens of our nation.  Throughout the year, we celebrate these people, with days of recognition/celebration, we recognize and honor the contributions that many career fields, and volunteers provide to our society, like teachers, nurses, fire, and EMS; many of these are also recognized globally throughout the year.

I’ve seen local recognition of many different industry/service workers in my lifetime, but it wasn’t until this year that I learned that there is one for the sanitation industry/service I work in and it happens to be one that is recognized globally, because the sanitation industry is recognized worldwide as an industry that has made an impactful contribution to society.

Since 2021 I’ve had the pleasure to work for LaForge Disposal Service,Inc. out of Wellsville NY.

LaForge Disposal Service celebrated 30 years of being in business last month.  Since 1996, Kevin LaForge and Mary Kate Cole have provided refuse disposal and roll off services in Allegany and the surrounding counties.  Mary Kate officially retired this year, and Kevin continues to runs the business, by himself, with the support of his team.   Kevin is a loyal supporter of local businesses and community organizations.  He will often visit our customer’s restaurants and businesses, to support them, just as they do for him, and he donates to community organizations annually, supporting the volunteer work that many give in our area.

Kevin is also very loyal to his employees, LaForge’s employes over twenty employees, that work throughout the year to help keep our area clean and safe.  They take pride in their work and they work hard everyday to do a good job.  Trash doesn’t stop for holidays, and neither does our crews, they often decide to forgo a day off for a holiday as the work still needs to get done and sometimes completing five days of work in four working days takes a toll on our crew.   They have to start early in the mornings every day to be able to access parking lots prior to business workers/customers arriving.   Our crews run their routes during the heat, rain, sleet, and even during major snow storms and they do so to keep our communities clean.

Global Garbage Man Day occurs on Wednesday June 17, 2026.   I hope our customers and local readers will take the time to give sanitation workers a wave and a “Thank You” for their service on Wednesday and any other day of the year.   I also hope that citizens will recognize that our employees work in a high risk industry, please show care when you are driving by them, they have people that depend on them and we value our employees and their safety.

THANK YOU TO THE SANITATION WORKERS THAT MAKE OUR COMMUNITIES SAFE AND CLEAN!!!!
