Thomas E. SLAVIN, Sr., 78, of Wellsville, NY, died Friday, April 3, 2026 in Hart Comfort House, Wellsville. 

Born June 16, 1947, in Lackawanna, he was the son of James I. and Mary Margaret Searle Slavin. On February 6, 1971, he married Marilyn E. Slingerland, who predeceased him on August 22, 2009. 

A 1962 graduate of Immaculate Conception School and a 1966 graduate of Wellsville High School, he earned an associate’s degree from Alfred Agricultural and Technical College. He served honorably with the U.S. Army from 1968 – 1970 in the 4th Infantry Division in Vietnam. He was employed as a shop clerk by Air Preheater in Wellsville. 

Tom was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, a 56-year fire company veteran, serving as past captain and president of Emerald Hook and Ladder Company No. 3, past chief of Wellsville Fire Department, life member of the Volunteer Firemen’s Association of Allegany County and Southwestern Association for Volunteer Firemen, and served with the Wellsville Fire Police. He served as District 3 Fire Coordinator from 2007 – 2017 and was honored as Co-Fireman of the Year in 2021 at the 105th Allegany County Firemen’s Convention. He was a member of Morrison Hayes American Legion Post #702. 

Surviving are: a son, Thomas (Elice) Slavin, Jr. of Wellsville; two daughters, Michele (Lloyd) Campbell of Wellsville and Theresa (Dustin) George of Cohocton; seven grandchildren, Jason (Jamie) Abram, Nicole Hixson, Daniel Hixson, Madison Campbell, Taylor (Elmer Rodriguez) Slavin, Loren (Nathaniel) Diaz, and Hannah (Kyler) Davis; four great-grandchildren, Hunter, Xavier, Layne, and Lionel; his close cousins that were like sisters, Ann Hendrick, Judy Lynch, and Jeannie Harris, all of Wellsville; a brother, Timothy Slavin of NJ; three sisters, Mary Kosko and Andrea Zolac, both of Cleveland, OH, and Marjorie Wallace of TN; father-in-law, Lyle Slingerland of Wellsville; two sisters-in-law, Rebecca Messing of State College, PA and Kristine Slingerland of Wellsville; nieces and nephews, Eli, Sara, Laura, Josh, and Andrea; nine grandnieces and grandnephews; and the countless friends he made through the community and his fire career.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Slingerland; and special friend, Sue Fagan. 

Friends may call Wednesday, April 8, 2026 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Olney-Foust & Embser Funeral Homes & Cremation, 34 West State St., Wellsville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 9, 2026 in Immaculate Conception Church, Wellsville. Burial will be in Genesee Cemetery, Genesee, PA. Military Rites will be accorded by members of Morrison Hayes American Legion Post #702.
