Allegany County Sheriff: Roads closed and seriously damaged in northern towns

The 911 center has received over 300 calls related to this storm in less than 24 hours.

From The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office,

Many roads in the Townships of Caneadea, Hume, Granger, Burns, Grove, and Almond are heavily damaged, with several completely impassable at this time.

Sheriff Scott Cicirello, speaking with News 4 reporter Gwyn Napier, urges residents that travel should be limited unless absolutely necessary. Motorists are reminded to never attempt to cross roadways covered by water, as conditions can change rapidly and pose serious danger.

As of this time, there are 4 official road closures in Allegany due to flooding:

  • State Route 19@Centerville Rd, T/Caneadea
  • County Road 15B@State Route 70, T/Burns
  • W Branch Rd, T/Rushford
  • Orchard Rd@E Centerville Rd, T/Rushford

There are numerous other roadways that have been damaged but are passable including:

  • Brown Rd., T/Almond
  • CR 13 C, T/Burns
  • SR 70 in multiple areas, T/Burns
  • SR 19, multiple areas, T/Caneadea and T/Granger

Do not travel in these areas unless absolutely necessary. If you must travel, reduce your speed and be vigilant for debris on the roadway surface. Also, be aware that the roadway and bridges may be compromised. If you observe any significant damage, immediately notify 911.

The 911 center has received over 300 calls related to this storm in less than 24 hours. Over 161 calls for service have been dispatched County wide including one water rescue from a residence in the T/Burns.

The response to this weather emergency would not have been possible without the dedicated first responders in this County. Fire, EMS and Law Enforcement were the first to respond and the last to leave handling every call for service. Allegany County Emergency Services Dispatchers handled the tremendous call volume professionally and efficiently, getting the necessary resources sent in a timely manner.
