Wellsville has long celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with gusto over the years. Corned beef and cabbage feasts, Guinness flowing freely, the Emerald Hook and Ladder men ever present. One could say that it was a one big party searching for a purpose. Until 2023 when the Allegany County Ancient Order of Hibernians announced a funny idea- celebrating with a parade, a very short one, in fact the shortest possible.

Now the party has a purpose and to the benefit of many, young and old, Irish or not….

The 12 inch idea was put into action for the last four years with wild success. The Grand Marshall for 2026 was Wellsville native John Dean. Enjoy this GALLERY by talented hometown photographer Ella Green:
