Albany, N.Y., January 12— To kick off the beginning of the 2026 legislative session, State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) joined his Senate Republican colleagues at the Capitol today to unveil “Save New York,” a comprehensive legislative agenda of policy goals they plan to prioritize to counteract the direction of New York government under all-Democrat, one-party control.

O’Mara, Ranking Member on the Senate Finance Committee, said, “Albany Democrats talk about New York State’s affordability crisis but their actions continue to show that they have no interest in reining in out-of-control spending, eliminating taxes, lowering costs, cutting burdensome regulations and mandates, or restoring public safety. Their vision for New York remains a vision built on irresponsibly spending billions upon billions of taxpayer dollars to increase handouts to their base. We need to save New York by restoring the right priorities, rebuilding stronger and safer communities, and working toward a more responsible and sustainable future for middle-class communities, families, workers, businesses, industries, and taxpayers. It’s time to save New Yorkers from waking up every day worried about making ends meet in a state that has become less safe, less affordable, less free, less economically competitive, less responsible, and far less hopeful for the future.”

Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt said, “New York is one of the most beautiful states in the nation, and we should have people lining up who want to live and do business here – instead, people are leaving thanks to dangerous and out-of-touch policies championed by far-left lawmakers that have turned our state into a dystopian nightmare. The Republican conference stands ready to Save New York and restore sanity through common-sense policies.”

Extreme, radical, far-left policies enacted because of the Democrats’ complete control of state government have had a direct effect on the quality of life and opportunity across this state, Republicans charged.

The Senate GOP’s “Save New York” agenda prioritizes restoring affordability, strengthening public safety and security, and building a stronger and safer New York focused on overriding policy goals including: providing affordability and economic opportunity; creating a safer, healthier New York; enacting more commonsense energy policies; and calling for government accountability.

Speaking at today’s news conference at the Capitol, O’Mara stressed the unaffordability of the state’s current energy policies under unrealistic and unreasonable regulations, mandates, and timelines enacted by Albany Democrats beginning with the “Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act” (CLCPA) in 2019.

Additional details of the Senate GOP “Save New York” plan will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
