The Allegany County Area Foundation (ACAF) is pleased announce that Alyssa Bump has been hired as Ralph C. Wilson, Jr Communications Fellow. Ms. Bump, who started her work with ACAF on January 5, 2026, will initially focus on the Foundation’s website, social media, publications, and media relations.
Ms. Bump is a 2019 graduate of Cuba-Rushford Central School and a 2023 graduate of SUNY Fredonia, where she completed dual degrees, with honors, in Journalism and in Public Relations. While at Fredonia, she served as a teaching assistant and a president’s ambassador. Ms. Bump devoted four years to Fredonia’s student-run newspaper, The Leader, as Life & Arts Editor, Design Editor, Copy Editor, and two years as Editor-in-Chief. Ms. Bump received numerous academic scholarships and was honored with the Lanford Presidential Prize at commencement, which recognizes one graduating senior who has exhibited achievement in academic excellence, community service, arts, campus involvement, and leadership.
Ms. Bump has spent the last two years serving as an Accepted Student Coach at SUNY Fredonia’s Office of Admissions. Simultaneously, she has been working to earn a master’s degree in Creativity and Change Leadership at Buffalo State University.
“We are very excited to have Alyssa Bump as part of the ACAF team,” notes Executive Director Bruce Campbell. “Her education, talents, and interests align really well with what the Foundation does and needs. We know she will contribute greatly to our work and embrace the opportunities the Fellowship program offers.”
“I am honored to serve as the ACAF’s first full-time employee,” Ms. Bump said. “This organization supported me through scholarships during my undergraduate years, and it is deeply meaningful to now give back to the community that shaped me. I am excited to use my skills to help amplify local stories, strengthen community connections, and advance ACAF’s mission across Allegany County.”
The Communications Fellowship is a program of the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation. Ms. Bump will be part of a cohort of 15 Rural Philanthropy Fellows: 12 Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Rural Philanthropy Fellows and 3 Herrick Foundation Philanthropy Fellows. Each two-year Fellowship offers professionals a unique opportunity to make meaningful contributions to either Michigan or New York philanthropy and the larger philanthropic community. With grant support made by the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation and the Herrick Foundation, the Fellows are employed by the community foundations to support their rural-focused efforts.
The Fellow cohort receives ongoing training and support from a group of philanthropic practice experts via the New York Funder Alliance (NYFA) for the development of skills and knowledge, supported by the Fellowship Cohort learning opportunities and an individualized professional development budget.
About the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation
The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation is a grantmaking organization dedicated primarily to sustained investment in the quality of life of the people of Southeast Michigan and Western New York. The two areas reflect the devotion of Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. to his hometown of Detroit and greater Buffalo, home of his beloved Buffalo Bills NFL team. Prior to his passing in 2014, Mr. Wilson provided that a significant share of his estate be used to continue a life-long generosity of spirit by funding the Foundation that bears his name. Based in Detroit, the Foundation began with a grantmaking capacity of $1.2 billion over a 20-year period, which expires January 8, 2035. This structure is consistent with Mr. Wilson’s desire for the Foundation’s impact.
