Vietnam Veteran David Haggstrom receives “The Quilt of Valor”

At the Thursday, November 20 meeting of the Catherine Schuyler Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), held at the American House in Angelica, NY, in addition to the regular business meeting, three new members were inducted, a Quilt of Valor was awarded, and the 2025 Chapter Public Relations and Media Award was presented.
Inducted as new members by Chaplain Barbara Van Wicklin were Darla Indralingham, Kim Bentley, and Cynthia Burton. These ladies are all related and trace their Patriot ancestry to Nehemiah Houghton. They were welcomed with applause, a DAR pin, and a members’ reference manual.
The Chapter’s Public Relations and Media Award for 2025 went to the Angelica Booster Citizens, publishers and editors of the Angelica Booster News. Representing the Booster Citizens were David Haggstrom, President, and Robin Robbins, Vice President. The Booster News, a monthly publication, promotes the local community through print coverage.
Immediately following the Media Award presentation, Mr. Haggstrom, a Vietnam era Army veteran, was awarded a Quilt of Valor. According to the Quilt of Valor Foundation (www.qovf.org) , these quilts, made to specific size and hand or machine quilted, are awarded to service members or veterans touched by war. The Catherine Schuyler Chapter DAR has a talented group of quilters; Mr. Haggstrom’s quilt was pieced and bound by Annette Brown, the label was embroidered by Joan Sinclair, and it was presented by Vice Regent Margaret Secor, chair of the QOV Committee.
Any woman, age 18 or over who can trace her lineage to a Patriot of the American Revolution is welcomed to join the NSDAR. For more information go to www.catherineschuylernsdar.weebly.com.
