Ribbon cutting at noon celebrates free computer access, workshops, and private telehealth space in Belmont NY

From Literacy West NY,

Literacy West NY, Inc. and CORE The Learning Center are pleased to announce the grand opening of the new Community Resource Room (CRR) on Friday, December 12, at CORE The Learning Center, 5455 State Route 19 N, Belmont, NY. The community is invited to an open house from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 12:00 p.m. (noon).

The CRR is designed to expand free access to computers, high-speed internet, and one-on-one support for adults, seniors, job seekers, and families. The new space will offer:

  • Open computer lab access with staff support
  • Computer and digital literacy workshops
  • Help with online job applications, resumes, and career resources
  • Access to a private telehealth office for medical, counseling, and other confidential virtual appointments

“Many of our neighbors have a smartphone but not a reliable computer, internet, or a quiet private place to connect with services,” said Lisa Lee, Executive Director, Literacy West NY. “The Community Resource Room is about breaking those barriers so people can learn, work, and take care of their health.”

The CRR will serve as a hub for digital skills training, employment readiness, and access to online services, including telehealth, social services applications, and virtual learning platforms. Community partners will also be invited to host workshops on topics such as health and wellness, financial literacy, and workforce opportunities.

“We want residents to feel this is their space,” said Ms. Lee. “Whether someone needs help setting up an email, joining a video appointment with a doctor, or applying for a new job online, we’ll be here to support them.”
