WELLSVILLE – Antique firearms will be on display at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12th in the Gallery at the David A. Howe Library when local man Paul Vossler displays part of his firearms collection.

The free talk and display will include firearms dating from the War of 1812 through the late 1800s, including firearms used during the American Civil War.

As part of the program, Vossler will discuss how firearms progressed through the 19th Century and will also demonstrate loading an 1812 flintlock musket, the kind of firearm soldiers used to defend Fort Niagara and Washington, DC.

Vossler has been collecting firearms for over 50 years and says, “I’ve always had an interest in Civil War firearms.

He is also an avid collector and restorer of antique cars.

This program is one of the many free, public programs sponsored by the Thelma Rodgers Genealogical and Historical Society and Nathaniel Dike Museum to enhance the knowledge of the area and history in general.  While the museum is officially closed for the season, members of the society will open the door for special requests. Along with a variety of historical displays pertaining to Wellsville and its development, there are vast archives of genealogical information about Wellsville families and individuals.

The Society is also running on membership drive. For $10 for individuals and just $15 for families’ members will receive a quarterly newsletter, THELMA, and access to the museum’s archives. For more information on how to join contact President Ann Comstock, Vice President Kathryn Ross, Treasurer Jackie Comstock or Secretary Angela Glickstein, or send a donation or payment for membership to TRGHS, PO Box 6, Wellsville, NY, 14895. This season the Historical Society is also offering a calendar for sale. With photos and historical information, it highlights many of the village’s churches of the past and present. The calendar is available at the Chamber of Commerce, Tami’s Floral Expressions and the David A Howe Library. Some calendars will also be available at the Vossler Program.
