VOTE yes to expand the NYS Adirondack Preserve

By Karen Patterson, Fillmore NY

Mark your calendar and plan to vote on Tuesday November 4, 2025, or vote early (Oct 25 to Nov. 2.) Although it’s not as exciting as a presidential election year, some might say that off-year elections are even more important for everyday life.

By voting in local elections when turnout is lower, you can have a bigger influence over who makes decisions in your town, city, county, and state. And, let’s face it, it’s not hard to see that whatever is going on in Washington is going to affect the situation in our hometowns.

Plan to nurture and sustain our democracy with your vote in this election.  Your community will become a better place because of it.

And speaking of a better place, did you know that all New Yorkers can vote on Prop 1 and decide whether to add up to 2,500 ‘forever wild’ acres to the Adirondack Forest Preserve?

The proposal authorizes the use of up to 323 acres of the State Forest Preserve lands at the Mount Van Hoevenberg WinterSports Center near Lake Placid for winter sports activities and facilities (trails, buildings and parking lots). In exchange, the State will gain 2,500 new acres of land added to the Preserve that will be managed in full compliance with Article 14 (the ‘forever wild’ clause of the NYS Constitution.)
