“Isn’t it time we insist that our current leaders return to our roots?“
Remember when we were in elementary school learning about the three branches of government? We heard stories about how the founders of our country rejected the idea of an all-powerful leader. It made us proud to know that our country was built on a structure of co-equal branches of government made up of the executive (president), judicial (courts) and legislative (congress). And it was always fun to hear about how brave patriots kicked that mad king’s butt.
The lessons and stories about the very foundation of our country are being erased by the current President and his administration. Instead of honoring the constitution, they are trying to govern with a supreme leader, issuing orders and creating rules without input or discussion from our elected representatives. To make it more troublesome, they are angry about legal guidance from the courts.
Decisions issued via ‘executive order’ from the President threaten our democracy. Items like refusing to release payments for approved projects, ordering the military into our cities, and firing on random boats from other countries all require input, approval, and discussion from the congress and the courts.
Our founding patriots knew the risks of having one man make all the decisions. They developed a system that honored discussion, legal authority, and common sense to help us build the strongest country the world has ever known. Isn’t it time we insist that our current leaders return to our roots?
