From CRCS,

A dream became a reality at Cuba-Rushford Elementary School this fall when a brand-new playground was built thanks to the dedication of 2nd grade teacher Sally Retz and the incredible support of the local community. Earlier this year, Mrs. Retz applied for a grant through KABOOM!, a national nonprofit dedicated to ending playspace inequity and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to play. KABOOM’s mission is to unite communities to create joyful, inspiring play spaces that help kids thrive. The grant, funded by the Allegany County Area Foundation and the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation, made it possible for the school to replace its aging playground with a safe, new play area designed for fun, friendship, and active learning.

From the first planning stages to the final build day, the project truly became a community effort. LC Whitford generously donated their time, manpower, and equipment to remove the old equipment and prepare the site, while Haley Concrete volunteered to dig holes and pour the concrete foundations. Many local businesses pitched in by donating coffee, food, and their hospitality all three days of the build. Volunteers poured in from every corner of the community from high school students, parents, faculty and staff, retired teachers, and countless community members, all working side by side with one shared goal: to build something special for the children. The new playground stands as a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together with heart and purpose. Cuba Rushford Elementary is deeply grateful to everyone who helped bring this dream to life.
